Music Theory, Harmony Lessons
Music theory and harmony form the foundation of musical understanding, shaping how musicians read, interpret, perform, and create music. A strong grounding in theory helps students understand structure, notation, rhythm, melody, and harmony, allowing them to approach music with clarity and confidence. These skills support all areas of musical study, from instrumental performance to composition and analysis, and encourage both analytical thinking and creative awareness.
At NPI, we provide comprehensive music theory instruction starting from the fundamentals and extending to advanced theory, harmony, and analysis. Lessons are designed to build a clear and practical understanding of musical concepts while supporting each student’s academic and musical development. Instruction covers the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) curriculum as well as other recognized programs, adapted to each student’s level, goals, and learning needs.

Harmony studies play a particularly important role for students pursuing advanced-level music education. Harmony lessons deepen a student’s understanding of chord structure, voice leading, modulation, and musical form, all of which are essential for advanced performance, composition, and analysis. At NPI, harmony instruction is structured to support students preparing for higher-level RCM examinations, university entrance requirements, and advanced musicianship studies, with content adjusted according to individual progress and objectives.
In addition, we provide Music History lessons for students who wish to gain a deeper understanding of musical concepts, styles, and foundations through historical context. These lessons explore major musical periods, composers, and stylistic developments, helping students connect theoretical knowledge with real repertoire and performance practice. Music history studies aim to strengthen overall musicianship and provide a broader perspective on how musical ideas have evolved over time.
